The honest positioning
My PC Doctor works with Windows Security and Microsoft Defender and adds security intelligence, visibility and assistance around your PC. If another security provider is active, My PC Doctor respects the existing protection.
What the Shield covers
Each area below is the real state of the shipped application. Two of them are marked as partial and two are not built yet, and they are listed anyway — a security page that shows only its finished parts is not a security page.
Microsoft Defender & Windows Security — Available. Which antivirus Windows is actually relying on, how Defender is running, its engine and intelligence versions, and thirteen Windows protections listed as on, off, or held off by another product.
Smart Firewall — Available. Windows Firewall in plain words: which network class this PC is on, which programs are already allowed, and what to do when a billing or accounting program cannot connect.
Web & download security — Partial. Check a web address before you open it, and a downloaded file before you run it: HTTPS, the certificate, the shape of the address, the publisher, the signature, the checksum and where Windows recorded the file coming from. Limit: No reputation service is configured yet, so the app says “nothing is known either way” rather than showing a green tick that would mean nothing.
USB Shield — Available. What is plugged in, whether this PC has seen it before, and what shape a pen drive’s contents are — then Microsoft Defender’s own scan of it, when you press the button.
Trusted applications — Partial. Applications are identified by publisher, digital signature, certificate and SHA-256 rather than by file name, and the decisions you make about them are kept on the PC. Limit: Today this identity and trust record is used for firewall decisions and for checking a download. It is not yet a separate application-reputation page.
Ransomware protection — Partial. Windows’ own Controlled Folder Access — what it is, what it will get in the way of, and a button that switches it on through Windows’ permission prompt. Limit: The protection is Microsoft’s, not ours. My PC Doctor explains it and can switch it on; it does not detect ransomware itself.
Security records — Partial. Microsoft Defender’s own past findings, the firewall changes made on this PC, the websites and downloads checked, and the USB activity — each kept locally so you and your engineer can see how the PC got to where it is. Limit: These are separate lists today, one per area. A single combined incident view is not built yet.
What it is not
Stated plainly, because the difference matters when a customer is deciding what to buy and what they already have.
It has no scanning engine of its own.
It never switches Microsoft Defender off, and never removes an antivirus you bought.
It has no kernel driver, does not inspect network packets and does not decrypt traffic.
It never offers a way around a Windows warning.
If you already have an antivirus
Windows allows one antivirus to watch files at a time. If you have Quick Heal, Net Protector or anything else installed and active, Windows steps Microsoft Defender aside and that product does the protecting. My PC Doctor names whichever product Windows is relying on, leaves it alone, and never offers to remove it. The one case it will point out is a product whose licence has expired: those often keep Defender switched off, which leaves the PC with neither.
Common questions
Does My PC Doctor replace my antivirus?
No. It has no scanning engine and never will. It reads and manages the protection Windows already has, and can start Microsoft Defender own scan.
Does the Shield send anything to the internet?
The Shield page itself sends nothing. Checking a website contacts that one site for its certificate; checking a download reads the file on the PC and computes its checksum locally. No file is ever uploaded.
Is there cloud threat intelligence?
Not today. The product has a provider seam for it, but no reputation service is configured, so the app says nothing is known either way rather than showing a verdict it does not have.
